Family Literacy Programs
These programs aim to encourage families to play and learn together.
Come Read With Me Grade1/Parent Workshop
The purpose of this parent/child session is to increase reading motivation and confidence. Parents first learn ways to support their young readers at home in the adult session. They then practice what they learned – reading and playing word games with their child. These workshops take place at local elementary schools in the Fall. Participants leave with a package of reading resources.

KRCC Storybook
This program gives inmates an opportunity to read a storybook to their child. A volunteer meets with a screened inmate in the Visits area of KRCC and digitally records the inmate reading a storybook. The recording is then transferred to a USB flash drive and mailed with the book to the child. This program brings good quality books into homes, promotes a love of reading, and helps inmates maintain a family connection.
